TEXAS — Rep. Kay Granger’s, R-Fort Worth, absence from Congress became a topic of discussion after a report by the Dallas Express was released on Friday. The 81-year-old Granger hasn’t voted since July.
The Dallas Morning News (DMN) reported on Sunday that Granger’s son said she was “having some dementia issues late in the year.”
Brandon Granger also informed the DMN that the congresswoman is currently residing at Traditions Senior Living in Fort Worth, Texas. He said that contrary to reports, his mother is not in a memory care facility. Rather, he said, she is residing in an independent living facility.
DMN further reported that Kay Granger was able to make it to Washington in mid-November in order to attend a celebration of her political career.
Kay Granger’s recent votes are all listed as “not voting” on the House of Representatives website.
Kay Granger serves as the U.S. representative for Texas’ 12th congressional district. Granger’s colleagues chose her to lead the powerful House Appropriations Committee in the 118th Congress in 2022.
First elected in 1996, Granger in 2023 announced her decision not to seek reelection.
