USC’s Dylan Bonsack goes up for a shot during a recent game played on the Rebels’ home court.
The United South Central boys basketball team lost a heart-breaker when they played Cleveland on Monday night, Dec. 16. The Rebels ended up losing to the Clippers by a score of 59-57.
USC led by 33-28 at the half, but the game went back and forth throughout the night.
The Rebels built a five-point lead into halftime and led by as many as seven early in the first half. But then Cleveland caught fire and led by nine with about seven minutes to play.
Two Aiden Crabtree three pointers in a row would cut the lead to three and the Rebels would eventually grab a one-point lead late in the game.
“At the 17 second mark, we were called for a foul and Cleveland made 1 of 2 to tie it,” coach Adam Walker says. “Moments later we turned the ball over around half court and fouled on the loose ball. Cleveland made both free throws and held on to win.”
Wyatt Sparks led all scorers with 25 points. Crabtree and Dylan Stephens each had eight points, Dylan Bonsack had six and Zayden Schott and CJ Schumann each added five points.
The Rebel team shot 65 percent for 2-pointers, 22 of 34, 12 percent for 3-pointers, 2 of 17, and 54 percent from the free throw line, 7 of 13.

Triton 70, USC 52
The United South Central Rebel boys basketball team played fairly even with the Triton Cobras on Friday, Dec. 13, for the first part of the game, but eventually lost the battle 70-52.
USC missed two shots inside within the same possession that would have given them a 12-11 lead with about eight minutes left in the first half.
But, from there, Triton’s Pierce Petersohn took over as the Cobras went on a 14-0 run and took a halftime lead of 44-27. Petersohn scored 33 points in the game.
The Rebels climbed back to within eight and had two chances to cut it to five at the nine minute mark of the second half on a couple three point opportunities, according to coach Adam Walker, but the Rebels did not have enough in the tank.
Triton then built their lead back up and eventually pulled away late in the game.
Wyatt Sparks led the Rebels in scoring with 17 points. He also led in rebounds with eight.
Dylan Stephens added 10 points, Zayden Schott had eight, Dylan Bonsack added seven and Aiden Crabtree six. CJ Schumann grabbed six rebounds.
The Rebels were 15 of 34 for 2-point shots for 44 percent. They made six of their 24 3-point shot attempts for 25 percent. They were 50 percent of their shots made from the free-throw line, making 4 of 8.
The Cobras were 24 of 39 inside the arc (62 percent), 5 of 23 outside the arc (22 percent) and 7 of 11 for free-throws (64 percent).
The Rebels had 29 rebounds while the Cobras had 35. USC had 19 assists to Triton’s 12, four steals to their eight, no blocks to their three, 10 turnovers to their eight and 16 fouls to their 13.
