LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Fairview girls basketball coach Kyle Jinks set a lofty goal when he first began coaching the Lady Panthers to win 1,000 games. A milestone that seemed almost unimaginable at the time but after 28 years and 13 state titles it’s become a reality.
“It was a goal I set a long time ago and didn’t think I’d ever reach but you know when you set high goals and you try to get them you get close but I didn’t think I’d get there in 28 years”
jinks says he’s had great supporters throughout his journey that have allowed him to succeed at such a high level.
“Jesus had a lot to do with that but my family who backs me up because I’m a hard worker when it comes to this because I love this sport. I’ve been very blessed with great players who worked extremely hard for 28 years every team that I’ve ever had worked hard and I think that when we start winning they understand what it takes to win so they don’t relax they know you have to do this if you want to win at the level that we do all the time,” said Jinks.
So many moments of victory that brought hardware back home to Fairview High but basketball is no hobby for Jinks he says it’s all he’s ever known.
“I’ve just always wanted to do this it’s the only thing in the whole world I felt like I could do. I hated construction, I didn’t want to work outside, I didn’t want to learn electricity but I knew this was the only thing in the whole world that I could be good at,” Jinks said.
Jinks has his squad playing well so far this season as they hold a record of 18-2 and are in pursuit of their 16th state championship in school history.
