Tomah, Wis. (WXOW) We’re a month into the winter sports season and if you’re looking for some early season surprises check out Tomah/Sparta hockey.
The Titans are off to a 6-1 start after beating the Avalanche 8-3 Tuesday night.
Offense is not in short supply.
They’re averaging just over 6 goals a game
Tomah/Sparta finished last season just under .500 at 11-12.
There’s always hope for an improvement from one year to the next, but the Titans admit this year’s fast start is even a bit of a surprise to them.
“I think discipline. They’re buying into our systems and tonight’s the best they’ve run it. I think if you watch the game, you can see it. Just the age of the kids, starting to be more mature and be more patient and take good shots,” said head coach Ian Holloway.
“Everyone has a great relationship together. It’s a great team, a great group of guys. It’s just awesome. Great mentality with everyone. Great system. It’s awesome,” said senior Alex Boyko.
Coach Holloway pointed to improved goaltending as another reason for their great start.
