Chase Briscoe had two key moments in 2024.
His victory in the Southern 500 secured the final playoff spot for Stewart-Haas Racing.
Less than a month after SHR announced that it would cease operations after this season, Briscoe was introduced as the next driver for the No. 19 at Joe Gibbs Racing, beginning in 2025.
The 2024 season was a challenging season for Briscoe and all those at SHR.

WHAT WENT RIGHT: Won the Southern 500 in the regular season finale, making the playoffs and giving Stewart-Haas Racing the last of its 70 Cup wins. He advanced from the first round of the playoffs before being eliminated. Briscoe finished sixth at Watkins Glen and eighth at Bristol in the first round in what were his final two top 10s of the season.
WHAT WENT WRONG: Stewart-Haas Racing announced in late May that it would close at the end of the 2024 season. It marked the end of a downward spiral for an organization that won two Cup titles in its first six years. Briscoe finished 24th or worse in five of the last seven races of the season.
CHASE BRISCOE SAID: “SHR meant everything for me. For one, it was an opportunity to go and really fulfill a dream. How many guys in the Cup Series can say they got to drive the car that they physically cheered for as a kid. … And then just the family aspect of it. It’s been an incredible place for the last seven years to be able to call home.”
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2025: Chase Briscoe moves to Joe Gibbs Racing and takes over the No. 19 vacated by Martin Truex Jr. Briscoe will have James Small as his crew chief. Although JGR is permitting its drivers to race outside of NASCAR, Briscoe said he will focus on his JGR duties and the opportunity he has to win races. Briscoe’s crew chief, Richard Boswell, moves to Richard Childress Racing and will be Austin Dillon’s crew chief in 2025.
