In a vote that ended Dec. 13, Cincinnati.com readers selected the next 2024-2025 Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Dec. 8.
Please note that winner certificates through Dec. 6 went out to athletic departments this week so winners can pick up their certificates through athletic directors.
Here are this week’s winners.

Football team: Beechwood – The Tigers went 14-1 and won their 18th state title, their fourth in five seasons. They were the only area football team to win a state championship in 2024.
Boys winter team: Hamilton wrestling – Hamilton scored 326 points with six individual champs to win the Dayton Christian Pool Tournament.
Girls winter team: Scott swimming – The Eagles scored 390 points to finish first among nine teams at the Scott Invitational Swim and Dive meet.
Ohio boys basketball team: West Clermont – After starting last season 0-5, the Wolves are off to a 2-0 start with wins over Talawanda and Loveland.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball team: Beechwood – The Tigers beat Grant County and Bishop Brossart by more than 13 points to start the season strong.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball team: Notre Dame Academy – The Pandas are 3-0 after dominant wins over Ursuline, NewCath and Scott to start the season.
Ohio girls basketball team: St. Ursula Academy – After a disappointing start, the Bulldogs bounced back with a 47-34 win over Ursuline in their conference opener.
Ohio big-school boys basketball: Carson Duke, West Clermont – The junior had 25 points including four 3-pointers in a 73-65 win over Loveland in their Eastern Cincinnati Conference opener.
Ohio small-school boys basketball: Rocco DiSanto, Indian Hill – The freshman had 36 points in a 61-60 loss to Expressions Prep (West Virginia). He had 10 3-pointers, a school record. The 36 points are the most by a freshman in Cincinnati Hills League history and fifth in team history.
Ohio big-school girls basketball: Jamia Jones, Middletown – She set the school record with 25 rebounds in a single game as the Middies beat Lakota West in overtime. Jones also had 13 points, two blocks and a steal in Middletown’s first-ever win over the Firebirds.
Ohio small-school girls basketball: K.K Pollitt, Williamsburg – In two wins last week, she averaged 19 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball: Jack Sullivan, Beechwood – He had games of 24 and 20 points to lead the Tigers to wins over Brossart and Grant County.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball: Kendall Augsback, Campbell County – The freshman had 10 points and two rebounds in a one-point win over Bracken County, then led the Camels with 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists in a win over Dixie Heights.
Ohio boys DI bowling: Cohen Ramey, Colerain – The sophomore had games of 210 and 245 in a win over Sycamore.
Ohio boys DII bowling: Riley McHugh, Deer Park – The senior had games of 177 and 188 in a win over Wyoming.
NKY/IND boys bowling: Raymond Scharf, Bishop Brossart – He had games of 235 and 225 in a win over Highlands.
Ohio girls DI bowling: Kendall Cook, Mercy McAuley – The junior averaged 204 in a pair of league wins, including games of 248 and 183 in a win over Mount Notre Dame.
Ohio girls DII bowling: Maddy Bryant, Taylor – The senior had games of 189 and 213 in a win over Edgewood.
NKY/IND girls bowling: Emery Rice, St. Henry – She had games of 177 and 173 in a win over Conner.
Ohio football: Aiden McClanahan, Anderson – He had five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in the Raptors’ 20-13 loss to Avon in the OHSAA Division II state final.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana football: James Cusick, Beechwood – The senior caught six passes for 113 yards as the Tigers defeated Owensboro Catholic for their 18th state championship.
Ohio boys swimmer/diver: Jaeger Ellerman, St. Xavier – He set the Mason meet record in the 100-yard individual relay (53.30 seconds), won the 100-yard butterfly (52.04 seconds) and helped the 200-yard freestyle relay set a meet record of 1:26.62.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys swimmer/diver: Bryson Metzger, Scott – He was the top male swimmer for the Eagles at the Scott Invitational. He won the 100-yard butterfly, placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal best of 2:12.09, and helped two relays to top two finishes.
Ohio girls swimmer/diver: Maddie Nixon, St. Ursula – She improved her time in the 50-yard freestyle to win in 28.19 seconds in a quad meet with McNicholas, Purcell Marian and Roger Bacon.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls swimmer/diver: Abigail Bush, Scott – At the Eagles’ home meet, the eighth-grader recorded personal bests in the 100-meter butterfly (1:13.99) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.09), and helped the Eagles to top three finishes in the 200-meter medley relay and the 200-meter freestyle relay.
Ohio boys wrestler: Luke Freund, Wyoming – The sophomore had six wins at the Bob Guy Invitational, winning the 285-pound bracket.
Girls wrestler: Torri Lewis, Loveland – The freshman claimed the 190-pound title at the Hammer and Anvil with four pins.
