Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner was diagnosed with cancer just weeks prior to his split from Theresa Nist.
Turner told “People Magazine” that he was diagnosed with a slow-growing “bone marrow cancer” called Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia. This is when white blood cells change into cancer cells and build up in the bone marrow.
“Unfortunately, there’s no cure for it. So that weighs heavily in every decision I make,” Turner told “People.” “It was like 10 tons of concrete were just dropped on me. And I was a bit in denial for a while, I didn’t want to admit to it.”
Turned shared information about the blood disorder with Nist in February, however, as he went in for more testing, it became conclusive that his blood disorder was cancer.
Turned shared the information with Nist and said, “The conversation was brief and I think [she was] a little bit awestruck by the news.”
Just a month later, Turner and Nist announced they would be getting a divorce after three months of marriage.
Turner said that he plans to continue living his life to the fullest despite his cancer diagnosis.
“I’m going to pack as much fun as I possibly can into my life and enjoy every moment. And when I’m gone, I’m gone, but I’m not going to have regrets,” he told “People.”
