The Wilmington-area sports schedule has now completely shifted to the spring slate after the conclusion of the NCHSAA basketball state championships last week.
We start on the basketball court, where New Hanover junior Kellum Brown scored a career-best 29 points as the Wildcats repeated as NCHSAA 4A East regional champions on Wednesday.
On the baseball field, Ashley’s Jackson Lee threw a no-hitter through six innings, striking out nine as the Screaming Eagles defeated West Brunswick 1-0.
Laney senior TJ Ziermann also showed out on the baseball field as he went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, one double, a triple and a home run as the Bucs topped Green Hopes 12-1.
North Brunswick junior Fisher Goodwin went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, three of which came on a sixth-inning homer that gave the Scorpions a 4-2 lead over Hoggard. North closed out the game, sealing its first win over its neighbors across the bridge since 2023.
