Election Day 2024 is coming soon, but if you don’t want to wait until Nov. 5 to cast your ballot in the national and state races on the ballot, you can vote before that date in person at designated sites, or request an absentee ballot if you’re eligible.
In addition to voting in the presidential, congressional and Tennessee legislative races, Knoxville voters also will vote on a referendum on how to elect city council members in the future.
Tennessee early voting runs Oct. 16-31. Specific dates, times and polling places vary by county. There are over 300,000 registered voters in Knox County, and that means Election Day lines will be long, Knox County Administrator of Elections Chris Davis warned.
Voting early allows you to choose a polling location rather than going to an assigned location on Election Day.
Before you cast your ballot, whether early or on Election Day, the Knox News Voter Guide lets you check out who the local candidates are and what they say about the issues:

The final day to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 29. You should do it earlier than that, if possible.
Ballot requests can be emailed to absenteeballot@knoxcounty.org.
There are a lot of eligibility restrictions around who can request absentee voting by mail, but some qualifications include voters who are 60 and older, will be outside the county on Election Day, are hospitalized, are attending school away from home, live in a nursing home or are away for military service and more. Find all the qualifications at sos.tn.gov.
The early voting period is Oct. 16-31. During that time, registered voters can go to any early voting location on any day or time it is open.

Election Day is Nov. 5.
Polls will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. If you arrive at your polling site before 8 p.m. and have to wait in line past that time, you may still vote if you stay in line.
On Nov. 5, you must vote at your registered polling place. Check your address at the Voting location search button at kgis.org.
Some polling locations may have changed since the 2022 election due to redistricting, so voters are advised to double check if they decide to wait to vote on Election Day.
Local Tennessee House races:
Tennessee Senate District 6 also is on the ballot.
