The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced the nominees for the 45th Annual Sports Emmy Awards on Tuesday. ESPN led all network groups with 58 total nominations, while FOX Sports also pulled in an impressive 31 nods. CBS Sports also received 30 selections and NBC Sports (24), TNT Sports (17), Prime Video (12), and HBO (10) all registered double-digit nomination totals. In addition, NFL Network, NFL Films and the NFL league office combined for a whopping 29 nods, as NFL content dominated the nominations overall.
Among the leaders by program, NFL 360 from NFL Network received 11 nominations, while CBS Sports and Nickelodeon’s coverage of Super Bowl LVIII pulled in 10, and ESPN’s E60 and Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football both netted nine. FOX’s NFL coverage and NBC’s Sunday Night Football saw six nominations, while ESPN’s SportsCenter nabbed five. In addition, Fox’s MLB coverage, HBO Sports/NFL Films’ Hard Knocks, HBO’s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel, and ESPN’s Toy Story Funday Football were nominated for four statues, respectively.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) will announce the winners at an in-person ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall on May 21.
“This year’s sports broadcasting nominees produced thrilling and captivating television,” Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS said in the official nominations announcement. “We look forward to welcoming these exceptional professionals to the 45th Annual Sports Emmy Awards in May.”
NATAS announced nominations in 46 categories including Outstanding Live Special, Live Series, and Playoff Coverage, along with Outstanding Technical Team Remote and Technical Team Studio, and the prestigious George Wensel Technical Achievement Award.
