Game 2 of this best-of-seven series will tip at 8 p.m. ET. <br>The Celtics, seeking their first championship since 2008, had six players score in double figures on Thursday. <a class="Annotation-link" href="/nba/players/2202365/jaylen-brown/">Jaylen Brown</a> scored 22 points, <a class="Annotation-link" href="/nba/players/2108420/kristaps-porzingis/">Kristaps Porzingis</a> made an immediate impact off the bench and added 20 as Boston flexed its muscles against Dallas in a <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/celtics-vs-mavericks-takeaways-nba-finals-game-1-goes-to-boston-as-jaylen-brown-kristaps-porzingis-shine/live/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">107-89 win</a> to open the series.<br>Dallas cut the deficit to eight points in the third quarter, but Boston answered with a 14-0 run to quickly pull away again. <a class="Annotation-link" href="/nba/players/2900426/luka-doncic/">Luka Doncic</a> led Dallas with 30 points, while P.J. Washington added 14 points and eight rebounds. <a class="Annotation-link" href="/nba/players/1779901/kyrie-irving/">Kyrie Irving</a>, a former Celtic, scored just 12 points on 6-for-19 shooting, including 0-of-5 from 3-point range. More importantly, Irving has now <span class="link"><a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-finals-kyrie-irvings-game-1-dud-vs-celtics-extends-three-year-winless-streak-against-former-team/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lost 11 consecutive games</a></span> against his former team.<br>The Celtics are looking for their first NBA title since 2008. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are taking aim at their second title in franchise history and their first since 2011. Regardless of which of the three remaining teams wins the 2024 title, the NBA will have its sixth different champion in six years -- <span class="link"><a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-will-crown-sixth-different-champion-in-six-years-after-nuggets-elimination-as-parity-hits-all-time-high/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">something that has not happened since 1975-1980</a></span>.<br>The postseason field started with 20 teams, and now we're down to two. The <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/GS/golden-state-warriors/">Warriors</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/SAC/sacramento-kings/">Kings</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/ATL/atlanta-hawks/">Hawks</a> and <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/CHI/chicago-bulls/">Bulls</a> were ousted in the Play-In Tournament before the <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/NO/new-orleans-pelicans/">Pelicans</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/PHO/phoenix-suns/">Suns</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/LAC/los-angeles-clippers/">Clippers</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/LAL/los-angeles-lakers/">Lakers</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/MIA/miami-heat/">Heat</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/PHI/philadelphia-76ers/">76ers</a>, <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/MIL/milwaukee-bucks/">Bucks</a> and <a class="Annotation-link" href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/ORL/orlando-magic/">Magic</a> were eliminated in the first round.
